On the day of Spring Equinox (2020) I visited owner Ericka and her newly opened business Pure Serenity Wellness Center. My goal, use her newly built Salt room for a 45 minute session (my appointment).
First, a little history. My degree is in Computer Science, I have no medical education. My history of asthma (doctor assessed) has been problematic, yet manageable since I do not take medications. Recently, I returned from a few months in the Southwest and my lungs felt heavy or “compressed” and ungoing shortness of breath. On top of all of this, coronavirus (COVID-19) had already started to spread across the U.S. I self quarantined when I arrived home but the pressure I felt persisted. After 14 days, going to the doctor’s office in these times was not an option for me so I thought it was a great time to try another possible method, salt therapy.
Even though I have no medical background, I am a great analyst (in my mind) and researcher. With that, I found there are few scientific studies on the effects of halotherapy. This is not surprising since it is natural (big pharma loses out if it is found to be effective for any illness).
My experience in the 45 minute session resulted in what I’ll classify as a mini miracle. During the session I did Spring Forest qigong movements focused particularly on the lung meridians (from my 2 year teacher/healer certification program). I also had plenty of time for meditation, relaxation and reading. One visualization was of the World encircled in white healing light. It was “pure serenity” all right and I thoroughly enjoyed what I’m now calling the “salt haven”.
The size of Pure Serenity’s salt room is enormous, easily fitting 10 or more lounge chairs. I had the whole room to myself. The beautiful glow behind the salt bricks beautiful and comforting as the salt air quietly pumps into the room. The floor is filled with coarse pink sea salt bringing a feeling of walking the beach when moving around.
During the salt therapy session, I found my lungs feeling less congested and the compressed feeling (heaviness in my chest) I had experienced for days before, became lessened. An hour or two after the session, I was coughing, then sneezing mucous, therefore clearing. Then, that night, around 1:30 a.m., I awoke and realized I was able to inhale even more deeply ever. Yes, it startled me awake. And even into the next day, the cleansing transformation continued with increased lung capacity.
In retrospect, I would have showered when I got home, but I was at the time simply loving the feeling of having spent a day on an ocean beach (oh, that healing salt smell is divine). The dry salt air did affect my forehead area causing temporary skin rash that went away quickly after washing. After all, the skin is the largest breathing organ in the body and mine has always been extremely sensitive. In researching, for a multitude of skin conditions, the dry salt has been known to have many healing properties.
As for my overall assessment, I cannot claim any medical outcome, I can only state that I am feeling so much better, can breathe more deeply and the pressure on my lungs is now gone. And YES, I am going back to do this again soon. Experiencing this with a group is a future vision of mine as well. Ericka, your warmth, talent, bright light and compassion are a gift to the entire Universe. I see you are offering guided meditation in your Salt and Selenite Haven as well. Perfect!
